The pouches are purely handwoven using palm leaf fronds by women artisans of a self help group from a village near Chennai. The process starts with sun drying the palm leaf fronds, splicing it down in length by hand to various sizes. They are then dyed with different colours and sun dried again. Only the best ones are now selected to be woven into various boxes and baskets of your choice. This art form is usually the only skill the women artisans have and is important for them to make a livelihood from it for supporting their families and themselves.
These customisable pouches can be used in many ways like creating your gift hamper, storing dry products on a table top and look aesthetically pleasing at the same time.
Care : Since the material is a natural leaf, it can catch mold or decompose if exposed to water/moisture for a long period of time. You can sun dry it if it becomes damp once in a while. To clean, wipe lightly with a damp cloth.
